Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

(2018) 7x8 mixed medium: This is #1 in a series of 4 titled "Slices." The project was a study where the relationship between line and color were explored to see how they coalesced to define form. In that context, the hard line ink served as a foundation onto which the color was layered, with the high lites almost impasto. I used a variety of under-paintings (base: purple, secondary: blues); complete tonal washes, and then build the gradations on top of that.
The form came about by looking at the interdependence of nature and the similarities of all organic shapes that appear in Eco-systems.
